Hard To Find Films Films From the Silent era and up that you can't find anywhere else!
PLAYHOUSE 90: LAST TYCOON Jack Palance 1957
This is one of the rarest, and one of the best, episodes of the great live TV show Playhouse 90, directed by the late, great John Frankenheimer.
This show has never been seen or rebroadcast since its single airing on March 14, 1957. In addition to Palance, the cast includes Viveca Lindfors, Keenan Wynn, an aging Peter Lorre, and a very young and lovely Lee Remick.
The novel was later filmed in 1976 by Elia Kazan, with a cast that included Robert De Niro as Stahr, Jack Nicholson, and Robert Mitchum.
The Last Tycoon, adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald's unfinished novel, features Jack Palance as the stony-faced Hollywood studio boss Monroe Stahr, whose judgment is questioned when he orders a reshoot of a movie that received an enthusiastic preview. Based on Fitzgerald's observations of MGM executive Irving Thalberg, Fitzgerald described his protagonist as one of "half a dozen men who have ever been able to keep the whole equation of motion pictures in their heads.”
Quality is from an old kinescope.
