BETWEEN TIME AND TIMBUKTU Sci-fi TV 1972
Originally produced for public-TV and broadcast on March 13, 1972 (after which it was rented out for stoned college screenings throughout the mid-'70s), this hodgepodge of unrelated Kurt Vonnegut Jr. ideas is cheap, loose and often a mess. But amidst its absurd comic moments and SF-draped political satire, it's obvious that director Fred Barzyk (THE LATHE OF HEAVEN, '80) truly respects the original material. When shy amateur-poet Stony Stevenson (PRIZZI'S HONOR's William Hickey) wins the Grand Prize in the Blast Off Space Food Jingle Contest, one of the not-so-welcome rewards is a rocket trip aboard Prometheus-5 to the Chrono-Synclastic Infundibula (defined by Vonnegut in "The Sirens of Titan" as "where all the different kinds of truths fit together").
Quality is about a 6.5 out of possible 10 on this rarity.
DVDs are DVD-R technology. DVD-R discs are compatible with most newer DVD players from approximately 2002 and up. Virtually all future players from major companies will be DVD-R compatible and many current DVD players are DVD-R compatible even though this format may not be listed on their disc compatibility charts. Though many do, for the most part, these discs usually do not contain any type of additional or "bonus" materials sometimes associated with commercial or factory releases.
