Carol for Another Christmas Rod Serling 1964
Presented without commercial interruptions, this "United Nations Special" was sponsored by the Xerox Corporation, the first of a series of Xerox specials promoting the UN.
What happens when you combine the talents of Rod Serling, Charles Dickens and Joseph L. Mankiewicz, and add as many distinguished stars as you can muster - including Peter Sellers, Robert Shaw, Sterling Hayden, Ben Gazzara and Eva Marie Saint? You would be forgiven for not knowing, given that the production of "Carol for Another Christmas" remains one of the rarest of all television productions.
Screened only once on December 28, 1964 this production is the only TV directing credit for the notable Joseph L. Mankiewicz. Written by the legendary TV screenwriter Rod Serling, the story is loosely based on Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol. This must rank as the most interesting departure from the Dickens story. Totally modernized, the film is a dire warning against warfare and the nuclear age.
Music was provided by The Pink Panther's Henry Mancini, who composed a beautiful theme to accompany the story.
In the final weeks of post-production, Peter Fonda's scenes were deleted, but his image remained in the film recognizable in a portrait on the wall.
