ANDY KAUFMAN ON FRIDAYS both infamous appearances
Special 2-disc set. Over 20 years after his death, "performance
artist" (he hated being called a comedian)
Andy Kaufman has become a cult figure and
his antagonistic performance style and most
famous routines are well known to people today.
However, while he was still alive, he was hated
by most of his audience due in no small part
to his absolute unpredictability onstage.
If Andy was a guest on any show, you were
constantly "on-edge" just waiting for the totally
unexpected or bizarre to happen and Andy
seldom disappointed.
Two of his most-infamous appearances were
both on the early 80's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
clone show FRIDAYS (which included SEINFELD
co-creator Larry David and SEINFELD's "Kramer"
Michael Richards in the ensemble cast).
In the first, Andy tells the audience that since the
show is "live", he can do whatever he wants, no
matter how crazy or off-the-wall, and no one will be
able to stop him. Then, near the end of the show,
he "breaks character" during a sketch which instigates
a fight with cast, crew and production people. He
makes a brief appearance on the show the next week
to apologize for his behavior.
In the second show, Andy comes on and excitedly
shares with the audience that he's become a "born
again" christian and then proceeds to introduce his
new christian fiance and sing gospel songs on the show.
Another highlight of that particular show is that the
musical guests that night are the PRETENDERS at the
height of their career.
This 2-disc set contains not only both shows in which he
appeared, but also includes Andy's "apology" the week
after the first show.
DVDs are DVD-R technology. DVD-R discs are compatible with most newer DVD players from approximately 2002 and up. Virtually all future players from major companies will be DVD-R compatible and many current DVD players are DVD-R compatible even though this format may not be listed on their disc compatibility charts. Due to the vast variety of DVD players, we will NOT accept returns on these items due to incompatibility. Though many do, for the most part, these discs usually do not contain any type of additional or "bonus" materials sometimes associated with commercial or factory releases.
