Can anyone tell me just how the hell this freakin' thing got "greenlighted"?? I cannot even imagine the board meeting on this one...even if I had done acid! Anywho, Darktown Strutters is without a doubt, the most bizarre blaxploitation title that came out from the New World studios. Imagine a offspring between 'Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!' and 'Cleopatra Jones', with stereotype Hannah-Barbara-like sets and costumes, produced by Gene Corman(Roger Corman's brother) and starring Trina Parks('Diamonds are Forever'). A black all-girl biker gang, wearing skin tight suits and feathered helmets, are entering the town for some family reunion. Unaware, that a crazy Colonel Sanders look alike, who's into cloning experiments, are planning for world domination. Sound strange? Well, then wait till you see the huge cotton farm with black servants, or the "Sky Hog" restaurant selling pork rinds and watermelons. Lots of rude slapstick, whackie fistfights, bombs, drugs, cream pies, goofy sounds and song 'n dance musical numbers will follow. Involving racist cop/clowns, cycle-straddling KKK'rs, femmes, minstrels, pimps, pushers and pig suits. Soul group The Dramatics performs too. Very-nice quality print.
