Although quiet and soft-spoken, Harmon Killebrew
epitomized raw power. His 573 career roundtrippers rank fifth on the all-time
list and second only to Babe Ruth among American League sluggers. Over his
22-year career with the Senators, Twins, and Royals, he tied or led the league
in home runs six times, belted 40 or more on eight occasions and knocked in 100
or more runs nine times. "Killer" won the American League MVP Award in 1969,
when he led the league in home runs, RBI, walks and on-base percentage.
