1935 Lauer Sisters Restaurant Menu Chicago 63rd Street
This is a Lauer Sisters Eat Shop menu from 1935. (Based on the day/date inside and the scrapbook it came from.) Checking the internet I found that this restaurant was located at 63rd Street and Normal in Chicago. The menu measures 7-1/2" x 11"and has 3 items paper-clipped to the inside. The first item clipped inside is a large sheet of paper with the evening specials for Friday, October, 11th. (Fried Lake Superior white fish, cole slaw, french fries... 40 cents) This evening special sheet is actually typed on the back of a Lauer Sisters Eat Shop menu sheet (see photos). The second item that is paper clipped is a small yellow card for "Real home made Italian Ravioli" for 35 cents. The third item that is paper clipped is a card for "Golden Brown Waffles" for 25 cents. The three items have paper clips attaching them that are slightly rusted, so they will leave a mark if removed. The menu has artwork of the entrance to the restaurant on the cover and a photo of the interior on the back (the photo on the back has some glue marks and remnants from the scrapbook page it was removed from.) The menu lists A La Carte, Soups, Steaks (T bone for 90 cents), Vegetables, salads, eggs, sandwiches, Fountain Service (hot fudge sundae 15 cents), special sandwiches (oyster sandwich, cole slaw, fries and coffee for 35 cents), and much more. This cardboard menu is in fair condition because it was removed from a scrapbook and has glue and paper remnants on the back, plus it was folded in half inside the scrapbook - there are light marks from the paper clips that have rusted - there is some toning on the edges. A NICE PIECE OF HISTORY FROM CHICAGO'S SOUTH SIDE! Postage is $4.75.
