1935 Decatur IL Soda Fountain Arctic Ice Cream Sealtest
This is a Soda Fountain Menu that was removed from a scrapbook page. The notation on the cover and on the remnant of scrapbook page says "Menu from drug store in Decatur, after seeing "The Raven" July 31st". (The film the Raven with Boris Karloff was released in 1935 and the menu has a printed date of 1935 on the back.) The menu measures 5-1/4" x 8-1/2" and made of thin cardboard paper stock. At the top of the menu it says "Take home the Arctic Ice Cream pint package to-day". At the bottom there is a Sealtest symbol and it says "Insist on ice cream bearing the Sealtest symbol" with a Good Housekeeping seal next to that. The soda fountain offered Sodas, Sundaes, Frappes, Phosphates, Cold Drinks, Milk Drinks, and Fancy Drinks (though no prices are listed). Checking the internet, the Arctic Ice Cream started in 1908 in Detroit. Sometime during the 1930s it was bought out by Sealtest. The menu is only in fair condition because it was removed from a scrapbook - there is a horizontal crease from being folded in half - there are wrinkles and light dirt on the cover - there is writing on the cover in the upper right - there are some spot inside - there is a small tape mark beneath "Specials Today" where a sheet may have been taped at some point, but there is none now - the back cover has some paper from the scrapbook still stuck on the back along with glue residue - there are some tears on the back with info missing from the center white box "The Sealtest System..." - In the upper right hand corner of the back cover there is a 1/2" x 1/2" irregular size piece that tore out and is inserted there, when the menu is open the piece that is loose is the "C" in "Arctic" in the center at the top. Not the best shape, but still very presentable and a nice piece of Soda Fountain / Ice Cream memorabilia! Postage is $3.50.
