WWI '17 Camp Upton Yaphank LI NY Draft Army Glass Slide
This is an original glass slide that was sent to a movie theater in Green Bay, WI in 1917 & 1918 to show between films giving current news and events. This glass slide's caption is "Second contigent of the National Draft Army wreathed in smiles have arrived at Camp Upton, Yaphank, L.I. Photo shows some of the new arrivals." "Shown through courtesy of Joannes Bros. Company - Home of Martha Washington Pure Food Products". This glass slide was produced by the American Press Association of New York. Checking the internet I found a news account mentioning this second contingent being called up in October, 1917. The camp was still under construction and I believe these draftees would have helped to finish it as it was officially opened in December, 1917. The slide measures 3-1/4" x 4". The glass slide is in good condition - about 1-1/2" of the bottom tape border have come loose. A NICE PIECE OF WORLD WAR I / NEWS / ARMY MEMORABILIA! Postage is $3.50. If you buy more than one glass slide, each additional slide will cost $1 in postage.
