1917 WWI Soldiers Playing Soccer Football Glass Slide
This is an original glass slide that was sent to a movie theater in Green Bay, WI between 1916 & 1918 to show between films giving current news and events. This glass slide's caption is "A remarkable photo showing the famous 75 mm. gun of the french army in the foreground, while some of the boys are having the time of their lives kicking around the old Pig-skin." Check the photo in the background I'm not sure if they are referring to the "boys" as Americans kicking the pig-skin (which would most likely be football) or if they are French kicking the Pig-skin, which would most likely make it soccer. Or they may have gotten this photo from overseas and misread football as American football. So I am not sure if they are playing soccer or American football, soccer would seem most likely... but I think Americans would most likely be playing football,so? "Shown through courtesy of Joannes Bros. Company - Home of Martha Washington Pure Food Products". This glass slide was produced by the Western Newspaper Union of New York City. The slide measures 3-1/4" x 4". The glass slide is in good condition - there is some light dirt and a few small marks - there is an inch long scrape in the lower left near the words, it could be a hairline crack, but I cannot feel it from either side of the glass so it would have to be inside. A NICE PIECE OF WORLD WAR I / NEWS MEMORABILIA! Postage is $3.50. Additional slides would be $1 extra postage.
