1933 World's Fair Opening Day Program Soldier Field
This is an original program from the Opening Day of the Worlds Fair ceremonies at Soldier Field on May 27, 1933. The program measures 7-7/8" x 10-3/4" and has 24 pages. The prorgram includes information on the background of the fair, photos of Mayor Edward Kelly, Rufus Dawes and James Farley, Postmaster General of the U.S. who was President Roosevelt's representative at the Fair. (FDR was supposed to open the Fair, but he was busy working on his first 100 days of legislation.) The program lists the special schedule of events for the opening day program at Soldier Field. There are 2 pages on the site of the World's Fair by the South Park Commissioners. There are some photos from around Chicago. There are some nice ads including one by artist George Petty for Atlas Beer and Baby Ruth candy on the back cover. The program is in good condition except that it has a vertical crease through it from being folded in half - the crease does appear more on a few pages pages - there is some light dirt on the covers - the spine has a 2" split along the bottom edge. A VERY HARD-TO-FIND PROGRAM FROM THE FAIR SINCE IT WAS ONLY AVAILABLE ONE DAY TO PEOPLE WHO WENT TO THE OPENING CEREMONY AT SOLDIER FIELD! Check out another listing I have for a ticket to the opening day ceremonies. Postage is $5.00
