1953 Down Beat Jazz Concert Program Ticket Gene Krupa
These are two items from Down Beat's Star Night which was held at Soldier Field in Chicago on August 1, 1953. This concert fest included performances by: Norman Granz Jazz at the Philharmonic featuring Gene Krupa - Oscar Peterson and Flip Phillips, Louis Armstrong, Eddie Fisher, Julius La Rosa, Patti Page, Ray Anthony, Ralph Marterie, Sauter-Finegan, Hank Thompson, etc. The first item is the program. The program measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 32 pages. The program lists the schedule fot the musicians along with photos of the stars. There is a dedication explaining that Down Beat Magazine worked over a year to put this show together. There are also some ads for record companies including United States Records (w/ Gene Ammons, Memphis Slim, the Caravans, Roosevelt Sykes), Chess Records #1545 aqnd Checker #777, Blue Note. There are also some ads for local ballrooms. The program is in fair condition because it had been taped in a scrapbook and the inside back cover has tape residue - the program has a vertical crease from being folded in half and wear(hey it was a long concert!) - the program has light dirt on the covers - there are some creases/marks from being held throughout the concert - there is a stain in the upper left hand corner of the program - there are some wrinkles & stains on the front and back cover. The second item is a ticket stub for the concert. The ticket measures 1-1/2" x 3-1/2". The ticket stub is in fair condition - has some fading on the edges - there are two vertical creases, one in the middle and one near the right edge - there is minor wear to the corners - there is the beginning of a tear with minor paper loss at the top of the ticket near the middle crease. A VERY HARD-TO-FIND PAIR OF ITEMS FROM A GREAT CONCERT EVENT! Postage is $6.00
