1996 Oak Park IL No Prayer at Village Hall Jack Higgins Orig Editorial Cartoon
This is the original artwork by Jack Higgins for his Chicago Sun-Times editorial cartoon dated 1996. The artwork shows a billboard with "You Don't Have a Prayer in Oak Park - Thank you for not praying" (with a church in the background) Checking the internet I found that in 1996 a man applied for a permit at the Village Hall to have a meeting in one of the public rooms at the Village Hall available for residents. The meeting was for the National Day of Prayer which was to be held on May 2, 1996. They had meetings there for the same event in previous years. Their 1996 application was denied, because it violated the Village Hall's meeting room use policy. Eventually the person who was denied the application sued in court. (Check the internet to read about the case) The artwork measures approx. 11" x 15-3/4". This is the original artwork that Jack Higgins created. The artwork is in good condition - there are some corrections in the lower right hand corner and touch-ups on the art - there are a few small marks/smudges/light dirt on the art - there is some small creasing in the corners. A NICE, ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECE OF EDITORIAL ARTWORK THAT WOULD LOOK GREAT FRAMED! When packed, this will ship at the 2 pound rate - check the postage calculator. Jack Higgins has worked at the Chicago Sun-Times for over 35 years and won a Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1989. Check out my other listings for a few other cartoons by Jack Higgins.
