1987 Jack Higgins Original Cartoon Chicago Takeover Commonwealth Edison Electric
This is the original artwork by Jack Higgins for his Chicago Sun-Times editorial cartoon dated 1987. The artwork deals with Chicago Mayor Harold Washington having the city look into buying the generation and distribution of electricity in Chicago from ComEd. In the end, the City of Chicago did not do this in the 1980s. (Fast forward to July of 2019 when 22 Chicago aldermen proposed a study of a ComEd takeover by the city. Will it happen this time?) The caption reads "Future Energy Czar?" and the newspaper headline resting on Mayor Harold Washington is "City Bids for ComEd". The artwork measures approx. 12-1/2" x 17-1/2". This is the original artwork that Jack Higgins created. The artwork is in good condition - there are a few marks/smudges/light dirt on the art - there is some light dirt (1" wide swatch) along the left border, along with a light stain near the bottom - there is some light staining along the bottom border along the left four inches - the artist's work shows, with some minor corrections as the piece was crafted - on the back there are some editor notes and some light dirt. A NICE, ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECE OF EDITORIAL ARTWORK THAT WOULD LOOK GREAT FRAMED! When packed, this will ship at the 2 pound rate - check the postage calculator. Jack Higgins has worked at the Chicago Sun-Times for over 35 years and won a Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1989.
