1986 Oliver North Iran Contra Affair Orig Editorial Art Watergate Jack Higgins
This is the original artwork by Jack Higgins for his Chicago Sun-Times editorial cartoon dated 1986. It is date stamped on the back Nov 28 '86 at 8:08pm so it was probably used the next day. The art deals with the Iran-Contra Affair showing Oliver North shredding documents and the shredded papers on the floor in the names of Regan and Poindexter. The title "The 18-1/2-Minute Gap" draws a parallel between the Iran-Contra Affair to the missing 18-1/2 minute gap in Richard Nixon's White House Tapes during the Watergate scandal. The artwork measures approx. 11-1/2" x 17-1/2". This is the original artwork that Jack Higgins created. You can see where the artist made corrections as he crafted the art. The artist glued a small (1/2" x 1-3/4") piece of paper on the lower right edge of the artwork during a correction.
The artwork is in good condition - there are a few small marks/smudges/light dirt on the art - there are some editor notes written on the back - there is some ink transfer on the back from artwork that was stored under this art - there is some light dirt on the back. A NICE, ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECE OF EDITORIAL ARTWORK THAT WOULD LOOK GREAT FRAMED! When packed, this will ship at the 2 pound rate - check the postage calculator. Jack Higgins has worked at the Chicago Sun-Times for over 35 years and won a Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1989. Check out my other listings for other cartoons by Jack Higgins.
