Vintage Porcelain Bureau Box
I found this piece in the attic of my grandfather's family home with items that belonged to his eldest sister. My grandmother told me that it was called a "hair tick", and it was kept on a lady's bureau to collect hair from brushes and combs to be used in crafts. We later found a shadow box picture of flowers and leaves all hand made out of human hair and delicate glass beads, and that my great aunt created the picture using her own hair as well as her little sister's.
This piece does have some wear marks and a small crack just inside the rim, after all it was used until my great aunt passed away some time in the 1930's. It is 3-inches high with the lid, 2 1/4-inches without the lid and 4-inches wide; the opening in the lid is 1-inch. The background glaze is a rich brown with beautiful, delicate roses that may be hand painted but very well may be fired decals, I just cannot tell. There is no maker's mark anywhere on the piece. I did, however, receive an email that stated this piece may be Czechoslovacian, as the person said she had a couple pieces just like it.
I am selling many personal heirlooms, and hope they all find good homes. My family treasured these items for many years, and I believe you will too.
If you have any questions or would like to see more photos of the item we would be happy to accommodate at your request.
