VG to fine condition American linenbacked apprx. 41 by 81 inch original release 1947 three sheet size THE MACOMBER AFFAIR movie poster . It was also known as THE GREAT WHITE HUNTER when it was rereleased. The 1947 movie stars Gregory Peck, Joan Bennett, Robert Preston, Reginald Denny and Jean Gillie. Casey Robinson and Seymour Bennett adapted Ernest Hemingway's "the Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber" into a solid screenplay which enlarged upon the themes of the original. A wealthy couple(Robert Preston,Joan Bennett) arrive in East Africa for a safari vacation, it soon becomes apparent that they are ill-matched . Their safari guide,Gregory Peck, attempts to conduct things professionally, as Peck's characters interest in Joan Bennett grows . This poster has pinkish reddish spray paint on the credits which looks great ! in my opinion but isn't original obviously to the printing . As was very often back then the case they took a original 3 sheet from 1947 and in 1952 put a snipe over the title that read THE GREAT WHITE HUNTER when I linenbacked this piece it was removed revealing the original 1947 printing , this spray paint was too expensive to remove and actually looks fine , yes some would wine how horrible , blah, blah, blah , if it bothers you DON'T BUY THE POSTER !! . This 3 sheet is very early in Peck's carrer , very rare , and cost me $400 just to clean up and linenback ,so spare me please any offer's to pay less then I'm asking . I am not interested in any offers , and shockingly I actually like the way the credits look with the paint all over them , it had to be pointed out to me by the restorer it wasn't done on purpose , I think it looks better then a bunch of white letters , the overspray effect is very even throughout all the letters and nothing is distracting and luckily it is very very surprisingly evenly done so as too look like it was designed this way . The letters in the title are painted in or fully restored from the snipe removal , whichever . There was alot of chips here and there and small tears so there is paper replacement and paint here and there . No large tears or paper was missing , just your typical extremely fragile 1947 movie poster ready to fall into dust if it wasn't linenbacked.
