STOLEN MOMENTS MOVIE POSTER 3 SHEET RUDOLPH VALENTINO 1920 LINENBACKED V. FINE
Welcome to the auction of a absolutely guaranteed original fine to very fine condition American apprx. 41 by 86 inch folded but now linenbacked three sheet size movie poster for STOLEN MOMENTS. The movie stars Marguerite Namara, Rudolph Valentino, Albert L. Barrett, Henrietta Simpson and Arthur Earle. Of the six films made by Rudolph Valentino in 1920, only three survive. This film is housed in the UCLA archives although it is incomplete. Valentino's work for 1918 (three films) have all survived . In 1919 he made seven films and only three have survived . This very very rare poster is surely one of a handful of surviving examples. The 1999 and the 2000 Poster Price Almanac editions list this exact poster as being sold for $1495 in Feb 1996 in a Butterfield auction unlinenbacked in fine condition. This poster has had no major paper replacement , it is a very old poster and was very brittle before I linenbacked it in 2005 and had the usual fold separation and small chips of paper missing here and there but no big pieces missing. I SOLD MYSELF THE ABOVE DISCRIBED POSTER FOR $2250 OFF MY VENDIO WEBSITE but recently I bought another example of this poster IN EVEN BETTER CONDITION in a Hershenson auction as you can see from it's before linenbacking appearance in the photo on the bottom taken right from the auction I bought it from , and so I linenbacked this poster and reactivated this listing and lowered the price to $1750 for years and now it's been reduced even further to promote it's sale in this recession , Bruce Hershenson even referred to a previous sale of this poster in his auction as an American poster( I think he might of been referring my own first sale of this poster which discribed it as American) and commented that he believes this poster to be from the U.K. from the original release - well it's certainly one or the other and after reading his reasons for believing the above in his auction it seems he's probably correct. The photo's of the linenbacked poster above is from my sale of the first one I had because I don't see the need to redo the photo work as this example is in even better condition and looks even better then the one in the photo's, if your in Los Angeles I'd be glad to show you the poster in person. The first photo strange white marks in the middle is from the glare from the flash off the paper, the crappy out of focus shots were taken without a flash.
