Welcome to the auction of a absolutely guaranteed original restored to apprx. very fine condition American 14 by 22 inch 1933 paperbacked window card size movie poster for THE INVISIBLE MAN. The movie stars Claude Rains, Gloria Stuart, William Harrigan, Henry Travers, Una O'Connor, Forrester Harvey, Holmes Herbert and E.E. Clive. This window card is a very well preserved example and has not seen the light of day since being printed. The card has absolutely amazingly brilliant original unrestored colors like it was printed last year but since it wasn't and the 73 years of leaning against something else acidic had caused the acid burns at the top yes but other than some paint as they say restoring the areas of this it has very little restoration in the image area. ALL THE PHOTOS IN THIS AUCTION ARE OF THIS EXACT POSTER IN THIS AUCTION AND TESTIFY TO THIS CARDS SHAPE. Yes it had some acid burns and some paper loss where most card had the entire area trimmed off at the top but as you can see they were restored expertly and it is probably one of the very best of the few that have survived, I heard estimates of a dozen to 2 dozen surviving examples of this card. This can all be seen clearly thanks to my including the before restoration photo at the bottom - something sadly that is almost never done by sellers . The restorer had to paperback the card to fix the card but the card was not removed from its original backing just a additional layer of very similiar to the original card stocks backing was added . I bought a collection of early 1930's window cards that had been stored together carefully undisturbed since the 1930s by the original owner these cards were kept out of the light and weather for 70 plus years by her . JUST A COUPLE YEARS AGO HERITAGEAUCTIONGALLERIES seller name on Ebay sold this exact poster ,it's listing was auction number 170089062792 in my opinion a far lessor condition THE INVISIBLE MAN window card went for $8000 and with the 22 percent premium they charge added thats $9760 that this card went for WITH THE TOP TRIMMED OFF !!! yes my card had the upper corner missing at the top as you can see from my before restoration shot but the colors on my card are unbelievable and awesomely bright - was this card? I couldn't tell from the very small photo that ran . More recently this card went for about $6800 at Heritage someone has emailed me I do not know what condition that card was in. In any case I would say my card is in far better condition and the more desirable card the photo's here do not show the colors well at all and i did not want to increase them in photoshop. I used my Contex wide image scanner, it does tend to mute colors - these scans are not like its appearance in person it's a total knockout very bright colors and really impressive piece. Once about 10 years ago a near mint example sold at auction for $13,900 but , hey , thats always probably going to be the best one and only one in that good a shape without restoration but this card has the same visual impact now . There was another example of this rare window card in the Ramones guy's collection but I heard that one wasn't even close to excellent condition or as the big auction house's use A or B condition and I think that one was sold for about $6000 . Their is also a example that used to run about every 6 months on Ebay for $15,000 minimum bid with all four sides trimmed off !!!.
