Antique Vintage 'US NAVY' Brush (Wooden w/Horse Hair)
The following item is a wooden handled brush with horse hair bristles. I believe the wood is maple. The bristles are attached with a 1" metal band which is riveted to the handle. As you can see from the photos the base of the handle is in red paint, which is continued on the top of the brush. On one side of the handle imprinted in the wood in black are the words 'US Navy', and the 'PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO'. The other side has the following, E-2, V-4128 GRADE B. This item has a great deal of age which is evident from the bristle wear as well as the patina the metal band has acquired. It measures 10". There are plenty of this type of brush on the market, but I've never seen another 'NAVY' one! Wonderfully unique item!
