OUTSTANDING BLACK AFRICAN AMERICAN PAINTING JACK & JILL
The following listing is for a fabulous vintage folk art painting. The painting depicts an African American boy and girl and is a Black version of Jack and Jill. In the painting are a young Black boy and girl carrying a wooden bucket between them. The painting is signed B. A. P. 1936. I wasn't able to find any information on an artist with those initials, and would love to hear from anyone who might be familiar with the signature. I'm not sure if the medium is oil or acrylic. It's done on oil cloth. It is currently mounted under glass in a simulated paint decorated frame, although the painting appears to have been stored rolled up previous to being framed, as the canvas is somewhat wavy. This could no doubt be straightened, but I've never removed it from the frame. It's in very good condition and measures approximately 20 5/8" tall by 16 5/8" wide. This has been in my collection for many years, so is a very fresh painting with a really rare subject. I like to think of them as a youthful President Barack Obama & Michelle, just embarking on their love story.
