Antique Chinese Painting Scroll Figures Man Woman Trees
The following listing is for a very old Asian scroll painting on what I believe to be rice paper. I don't know the specific origin of the piece, but a friend's wife, who is from China has assured me that this is Chinese. She could read the Chinese letters or characters on it, but she didn't know how to tell me what it said or meant as she said her English was not good enough to translate it. The painting is that of a man and woman, with trees, rocks, and possibly water. The paper is double sided, or two pieces put together. In addition to the characters on the front, there is a small character on the back in the upper right hand corner. The top has a piece of squared off wood, and the bottom has a wooden piece which is covered in great looking, very old cloth. Both pieces are shown in one of the photographs. There is an old string at the top for hanging. For such an old, fragile piece, it is in very good condition. There are two holes, one small 1" tear, and one 7 1/2" tear, on the front near the bottom, also photographed. It does have some water marking on the upper back of the piece, but this does not show through to the front. It does have an somewhat crinkly appearance overall. It measures approximately 58" long and about 23" wide. If anyone has information about the origins or markings, I would love to hear from you. Great piece!!
