Vintage *WESTWARD HO* Charles Kingsley Book 1900s
The following listing is for a gorgeous antique volume of 'WESTWARD HO', 'rendered into modern English', by Charles Kingsley. There is no copyright date, however while researching this I discovered in the biography of the illustrator that his work on this was probably done in 1903. The dedication written by Charles Kingsley, is dated 1855. The book is absolutely gorgeous! It has a deep blue cover, with a sailing ship against a gold background, with gold lettering as well. The top edge of the pages are gold, also. It was published by the Thomas Y. Cromwell Publishing Company of New York, New York. The book is full of wonderful illustrations by Harold Copping. The overall condition is good. It has some binding separation which can be seen on the inside of the front and back cover, although the integrity of the pages is not affected. The cover shows minimal edge wear. There are a few stains/foxing, nothing egregious, in the very first pages and back and front covers. Some of the pages that comprise the body of the book have stains/foxing, but are primarily quite clean. All text is crisp and legible. The only extraneous writing is the owner's name, which is O.D. Johnson, the date 8/2, and some initials below this. The book has a total of 696 pages.
