NICE Antique Dovetailed Box (brown paint)
The following listing is for a very nice small dovetailed box in an old brown/red paint stain. It has 1810 on both ends, however, the dovetails are machine made, and it probably dates from the early part of the 1900's. It's constructed of good old nails. It has a brass hasp, although it no longer has a padlock. The box has a really nice patina, although it came out looking somewhat smeared in the photos. This box has a wonderful story, which I have every reason to believe is true. As some of you may know, the Berkshires have been visited by many a celebrity. The woman who owned this box, while working at a restaurant in the area, happened to wait on Paul Newman. He requested a beer, and asked her how she was doing. She said she was fine, but could really use a beer herself. He promptly bought one for her. Considering who purchased the beer for her, she decided not to ever open it, and kept it in this box for years. The family wouldn't part with the bottle of beer, but did sell me the box. This charming little box measures 12 3/4" long, 4 1/2" high, and is 7 1/4" deep. It's in good condition. There are a few little marks and such, that occurred over the years, but no major damage.
