Here are answers to the most common questions I receive concerning the NordicTrack® skier leg resistance belts

Q.  How do I install the leg resistance belt for the NordicTrack® Pro Style skier w/single metal clip strap?

A.  The NordicTrack® Pro, Pro II, Classic Pro (made after 2000), Excel, 505, 303, Sequoia, Limited, Sport, All American and all Easy Ski models all use the same resistance strap and all install the same way:

NordicTrack® recommended replacing the leg resistance strap at least every 400 hours (every two year for the average user) & changing your NordicTrack® skiers leg resistance belt will make your skier operate smoother & quieter.  Please click here to see NEW leg resistance belts for your skier model:

Q.  How do I install the leg resistance belt for the Achiever Style skier w/double metal clip strap?

A.  The NordicTrack® Elite, Medalist and Achiever models all use the same resistance strap and all install the same way.  Both ends of the belt will connect to the main tension spring (one clip at each end of the spring).  The main spring will be connected to leg tension gage indicator (the red slider you can see from the front that lets you read the tension).  Clip one end of your tension belt to this spring (attach at the end NOT connected to the leg tension gage).  The other end is then wrapped up and over the top of the flywheel and then back under to the small adjustment pulley wheel (the pulley that is connected to the cable adjuster).  The belt then goes up and over this pulley wheel and connects to the end of the spring that IS connected to the leg tension gage.  Here is a pict of a correct installation:

Q.  I cannot get my Achiever Style skier leg resistance to adjust properly. What is wrong?

A.  If your NordicTrack® Elite, Medalist or Achiever leg resistance gage chatters (bangs up and down) or goes to the maximum resistance after just a few minutes of use, then the belt needs to be replaced, and/or the flywheel needs to be cleaned.  Since the belt should be replaced every two years, it is a good place to start and will usually solve this problem.

Even with a new belt, you will still want to clean the flywheel for optimum performance.  Sometimes the flywheel can build up a residue that can grip the belt as it warms up. To clean the flywheel, use a cotton ball or paper towel and wipe down the surface of the flywheel where to belt makes contact with rubbing alcohol.  You also should lightly rub the contact surface with some 000 steel wool.

After you install the new belt (see installation instruction above), you may need to adjust the cable/pulley setting.  To adjust the cable/pulley connection. First, turn the resistance knob to the lowest resistance setting and then turn it one turn in the + direction. This is your zero point adjustment; the point at which the red arrow should read zero on the leg scale. Next, loosen the nut on the tension adjustment pulley (this is located at the end of the resistance cable). You want to adjust the cable so the pulley just takes the slack out of the resistance strap and the red arrow reads zero. Re-tighten the nut and you should be set up correctly.

Q.  Should I lubricate the resistance belt or the flywheel to extend the life of the strap?

A.  NO, you should never use any lubrication on these straps.  The resistance strap are made from synthetic polymers that will be damaged if they come in contact with lubricants, significantly reducing the life of the straps.  However, to extend wear, you can turn the resistance belts over to use both sides of the strap.

Q.  Are leg resistance belts available for the Plus model skiers (Pro Plus, Achiever Plus and Medalist Plus)?

A.  NordicTrack® made the Plus model skier from the mid 1990's to 1998.  In October of 1998 NordicTrack® declared bankruptcy and soon after ICON Health & Fitness purchased their name and assets.  ICON has since discontinued support of the Plus model skiers.  However I do carry a limited supply of Plus model parts, including new leg resistance straps.  Click the link below to see my Plus model replacement parts:
