A quote: Pillow
lace may be regarded as an invention of the 16th century. Made in the first
instance at Genoa, it spread rapidly throughout Italy, Spain, the Netherlands,
Germany and Sweden. Much later on, the work was introduced into Slavonic
countries and South America; in recent years it has extended eastwards, notable
to the Islands of Crete, Candia and Ceylon and to Madras in
India."

This CD REPUBLICATION you will receive is
representative of the types of needlework expertise of earlier feminine American
culture! If you're into nostalgia like I am you will have many hours of
enjoyment making/recreating vintage/antique needlework items for yourself or
others dear to your heart just the way your great-grandmothers did!
Something to think about: This is now the
time of year for the creative people to work on their sewing, needlework,
crochet, knitting, embroidery, bead and other arts/hobbies. I find, for myself,
that now is playtime prior to the holiday rush for my hobbies and that this
playtime dwindles dramatically during the rest of the year. If we don't play now
we might not have many opportunities before this time next year...
Pretty much everything you need
to make the exquisitely delicate pillow laces but the silk, linen
or cotton thread, bobbins, pillow, pins, etc. However, these
all can be readily found on eBay! You just have to hunt a little bit! :) Or, you
can obtain the contemporary materials at your nearest fabric, craft or
hobby store...
You may print these patterns in the original sizes
or to you personal preferences. Then it is a quick process to transfer
your virtually lost-to-the-modern-world-needleworker Victorian embroidery designs by any of the following methods. B y using an iron-on transfer pencil, with a pencil (or
seamstress' tracing wheel) and carbon paper, or by taping the pattern sheet on a
window on a sunny day and tracing directly onto the fabric with a
pencil.
