These instructions are characteristic of the crafts done by
our lady ancestors during the Victorian and Antebellum cultural periods and earlier!

wonderful creative art informational source revealing our heritage from early America and European!
A few quotes:
"As the hair is the only part
of our beloved friends which can be kept in memoriam, it is natural that we
should desire to preserve the treasure in some way that will testify our
appreciation of its value, and when this can be done in a manner that is both
pleasing to the taste and that will insure its prolonged or lasting
preservation, it becomes a work which all may desire to be able to successfully
practice…The ability to so arrange and secure each strand of the sacred
treasure, becomes an accomplishment truly valuable, and worthy all the patience
and skill required in its performance."
"The smoothness and regularity
of hair-work is its greatest beauty, and there is no branch of fancy work which
requires so few rules, or which may be so readily acquired by practice. A
dexterous use of the fingers, neatness of finish, and that skill in
manipulating, called "nimble fingering," are the great requisites in forming
perfect leaves and flowers of hair."
"Take nature for your guide,
and with hair of various colors and lengths, you will be able to form almost any
flower you desire."
What a historically
educational and delightful art instructional piece this is!
