An excerpt from this book:
"A BOOK of instruction, whether it be for the use of children or adults, amateurs or experts, should be complete. By this we mean that, as far as possible, it should begin at the alphabet, or the rudiments of the subject-matter, and progress step by step to the climax of mastery.
In
planning and preparing this pamphlet upon Drawn-Work, the point just mentioned
has been kept constantly in view. Beginning with a list of suitable fabrics,
knotting materials and implements, and telling how to draw the threads and make
the foundation stitch of all drawn-work, we have placed before the student every
step of the work from the rudiments to the development of the most elaborate
designs; and of the latter we have selected many noted for their beauty, some of
which are intricate in construction and effect, others easy to develop but
complicated in appearance, while many are extremely attractive to the eye from
their very simplicity of design and construction. The instructions and
suggestions found in the book make the development of all of the design easy of
accomplishment, and render the evolution of individual designs an occupation of
fascinating interest.
