Antique Victorian

DMC Library ~ Drawn Thread Work 1st Series

CD REPUBLICATION!

Originally Published in c1900!

Up for bid is another lovely Antique Victorian CD REPUBLICATION "Drawn Thread Work", which includes scores of patterns and instructions! These folks provided some of the best instruction books for the needle arts ever published! The experienced needlecraft and fancywork artisans of the late 1800's to early 1900's clamored for this type of item and with good reason! (Original is NOT for sale)

This 106 page item covers the gentle art of using linen, cotton or other materials, needles and various threads (silk, linen and cotton) to make the daintiest (but also amazingly sturdy) decorative drawnwork needlework doilies, centerpieces, dresser scarves, tidies, and clothes for the classiest of homes and families!

You can readily find these antique and vintage linen and other materials on eBay! You just have to search a little bit! :) Or, you can select similar contemporary items on eBay or at your nearest craft, hobby or fabric store.

This HISTORIC item includes over 110 steel plate etchings and 20 plate illustrations!

You can see this book will keep you busy a long time making beautiful, dainty, colorful decorative soft home furnishings and fabric items for you and yours, as gifts or to sell!

These instructions are characteristic of the fancy work done by our oh-so-feminine lady ancestors during the Victorian, Edwardian and Titanic eras! This is the perfect opportunity to purchase your own version of another wonderful arts and craft book revealing our heritage from early America and Europe!

Excerpts:

"The empty spaces produced in linen by grouping togehter with stitches sevral threads, isolated by the drawing out of warp or woof threads or both, constitutes what is known as "drawn thread work".

By grouping together and covering the isolated threads with different stitches the most varied combinations and the richest paggern can be produced, suitable either as sole decoration or as a finish to cross stitch or other embroidery."

"The patterns of modern work of this kind are very similar to certain lace patterns, they resemble the American ones and contain, like these, stitches and figures often employed in the Teneriffe lace. "
