An excerpt:
"Like many
fabrics of a special character this beautiful and artistic lace now so much in
vogue takes its name from the country whence it originated, namely the Teneriffe
islands. Made by peasant women upon rude and cumbersome frames, up to within the
last few years it has been little know in England, But of late however in these
days of enterprise and travel, so much of it has found its way into this country
thus affording an opportunity for a careful study of its peculiar
characteristics, that with the convenient and simple appliances we now have for
its manufacture, it is possible for any lady to make for herself all forms of
the lace, and indeed in far greater a variety of designs than ever originated
from the nimble fingers of the humble workers of Teneriffe.
No special
knowledge of lace making is necessary, and with undivided attention and a
careful perusal of the instructions given in this work, the most beautiful
specimens of lace may be obtained. The latest and most novel and effective
treatment of Teneriffe work is the coloured lace in conjunction with a colored
material..."
