1899 beautiful engraving of Peking
Oriental Architecture - Scenes On and Near the City of Peking, China
and
The Philippine Islands
The print comes from The New Peerless Atlas of the World,
Published by The Crowell & Kirkpatrick Co., Springfield Ohio.
Entered According to the Act of Congress, in the year 1899,
in the Office of the Librarian of Congress, at Washington, D.C. Pages 139 and 140.
Page 139 contains the superb engraving of Peking (Beijing) showing
the city view, examples of
architecture, etc. - all beautifully composed, together with various Chinese
symbols (dragons) and figures.
Page 140 on verso contains description of the Philippine Islands (geography,
climate, products, population, religions, telegraphs, American conquest) and Ladrone Islands
(The Marianas Archipelago).
There are two pictures on p. 140:

Moving-day in Manila - method of handling furniture (photograph)
A real treat for history buffs.

the pictures from my digital camera are slightly fuzzy; the original is sharp. Also,
they are on the blue side (the camera software produced too much of blue hue).
Page measures 13 1/2"x 10 1/2".
Although the page is more than 100 years old, it is in a good condition.
There is yellowing of paper, appropriate for a turn-of-the-century print, and
three tears that have been repaired with mending tissue.
Will look great with a mat and frame.
