This single authentic leaf comes from The New Peerless Atlas of the World,
Published by The Crowell & Kirkpatrick Co., Springfield Ohio.
Entered According to the Act of Congress, in the year 1899,
in the Office of the Librarian of Congress, at Washington, D.C. Page 97/8.
Page 97 contains basic information on Wisconsin (State Seal, population, statistics, history,
education, railroads, historical dates, newspapers, Civil Divisions Table, etc.)
while p. 98 on verso covers Kentucky.
There are four
beautiful engravings:
-
Wisconsin State Capitol, at Madison (p. 97)
-
Lake Winnebago, near Neenah and Menasha, Wisconsin (p. 97; see people picnicking, rowing...)
-
Kentucky State Capitol, at Frankfort (p. 98)
-
Jack's Narrows, in the Alleghany Mountains (p. 98; see railroad, two passing trains).
Jack's Narrows is located 85 miles from Harrisburg and 162 from Pittsburg, in Huntingdon County,
Pennsylvania. It is a narrow gorge through which the Juniata
River flows, along with Jack's Spring. It was
named for John Armstrong, who was called "Jack". Armstrong was a
trader. He was murdered by Indians near the Narrows in February, 1744.
A real treat for history buffs.

The page measures 13"x 22".
Although the leaf is more than 100 years old, it is in a very good condition.
There is yellowing of paper, appropriate for a turn-of-the-century document.
Will look great with a mat and frame.
