This map appeared 1863 in the London Weekly Dispatch Atlas, (a scarce atlas distributed in parts to newspaper subscribers), 139 Fleet Street, London. Drawn and Engraved by T. Ettling. 3 Red Lion Square, Holborn. Printed by E. Weller. The symbol of "The Dispatch Atlas" (top of a globe with the name and an unfurled banner around the globe) is shown above the title. Theodor Ettling (born 1823) was a Dutch draughtsman, engraver and lithographer who worked first in Amsterdam, later moving to London where he produced maps for some of the British papers of the mid-nineteenth century.

This fascinating authentic map shows state borders, provinces, individual counties, towns, forts, roads, railways (in operation and proposed), rivers, and lakes. Nice detail. Below given are some interesting details related to the map's content.

• British military posts on the U.S. border are marked
• The Rideau Canal connecting Kingston with Ottawa is shown. It was officially opened in the summer of 1832.
• Saint-Pierre and Miquelon is an archipelago about 15 miles off the southern coast of the island of Newfoundland. The first permanent French fishing settlement was established in 1604. The islands were subsequently exchanged between the French and British several times until restored permanently to France in 1816 under the Treaty of Paris (1814). T Langlade I. is named Langley I.
• The Hudson Bay Co. House on Mistassini Lake is marked.
• A fort on Timmiskainmay Lake (Quebec) is shown
• Temiscaming House on Lake Temiscaming is marked
• Old Indian Post west of Oskelanaio (Oskelaneo) Lake is shown.
• The Monts Otish in Quebec are named "Wotchish Mountains"

Map is 12 x 17 inches on 13.5 x 19.1 inches sheet. Margins suitable for framing. Hand colored outline. One centerfold as issued. The condition is good. Imperfections: monor browning and handling in margins; one faint horizontal fold; one brownish spot; one ink stain on verso. Will look great with a mat and frame.
