Authentic dated 1935 map of
Iceland. Appeared in an article by
by John Wright on the "HAGAVATN GORGE,"
published by the Royal Geographical Society,
in the Geographical Journal (vol. 86, p. 296)
This original very detailed dated map of Iceland shows
Langjökull (Icelandic: "Long Glacier") -
large ice field, west-central Iceland. Langjökull is 40 miles long and 15 miles
wide and covers an area of 395 square miles. It rises to 4,757 feet above
sea level in the centre and feeds several rivers, including the
Hvita and Ölfusa. Haga Lake (Hagavatn) is at the
foot of the glacier. The sheet contains five maps:

Hagafell Glacier and Hagavatn Lake. (From a survey by S. White 1934.)

Southern Edge of Langjökull. (From a survey by H.J. Simpson and J.W. Wright 1934
with additions from Danish Survey 1930.)

Langvatn Lake (includes a section of Langvatn)

Iceland (position of Langjökull is marked).

The map is a magnificent document and a treat for history buffs. Heights are given in feet.

is 9.7 x 29.7 inches Wide margins. The condition is
excellent. Dark impression.
Imperfections: one faint fold.
