This beautiful steel engraving appeared in "Meyer's Universum"
by Joseph Meyer (1796-1856), published in Hildburghausen (Germany) by the
Bibliographischen
Instituts c1850.
Bibliographischen
Instituts was created in 1826 by Joseph Meyer.
From 1833 to 1864, Joseph Meyer issued a
journal, Meyer's Universum, containing text and steel engravings of all
parts of the world. Some of those engravings appeared in
the 52-volume
"Conversations Lexicon" (1840 - 1855).
The Institute also issued
"Meyer's Travel Guide"
and many editions of "Meyer's
Atlas".
This authentic steel engraving shows
the Southwest Pass (historically, the main shipping channel) through
the Mississippi River Delta. In the foreground
shown are two sailboats and a staemboat, while many ships are depicted in
in the background.

The view is 4.2 x 6.2 inches on 7.7 x 11.5 sheet.
Very wide margins suitable for framing.
The condition is
good.
Imperfections: age toning; browning and foxing in margins
(margins can of course be covered or trimmed).
Will look great with a mat and frame.
