1874 Large Colored Map of Asia by Bureau
1874 Large Map of Asia
"ASIE"
Color, Double Folio
Shows European Possessions
This original
steel etching, probably by Ch. Dyonnet after the drawing by Th. Duvotenay,
originally appeared as text
illustration in M.A. Thiers's "Histoire de la Revolution
Francaise" (Paris, Furne et Cie 1846). The map was reprinted for
"Atlas Geographie Militaire", Adopte Par. M. Le Ministre De La
Guerre Pour L'Ecole Speciale Militaire De Saint-Cyr, by Colonel
Edmond Bureau. Printed in
Paris by Furne, the publisher Thier's atlas,
Jouvet et Cie, Libraires-Éditeurs, 45 Rue
Saint-André-des-Arts, MDCCCLXXIV (1874).
Bureau was a
professor of history, geography, and military statistics at the
military academy
at Saint-Cyr. Bureau's atlas was a revision of the similar atlas by Theophile
Lavallee. Both atlased used the original plates engraved
by Dyonnet.
