This map comes from the Atlas Universel de Géographie Ancienne et
Moderne...
by Colonel Pierre Lapie (1779-1850) and his son Alexandre Emile Lapie
(1809-1850)
who worked on maps with his father, and was a Captain in the same Guards
Division as his father.
From around 1820 Pierre Lapie was First Geographer to the King of
France, Chief of the Topographic Section of the War Office, military
cartographer, and publisher. In 1829, with Alexandre Emile, Pierre
issued Atlas Universel... , which was
reissued in 1837, 1841, and later.
The map was engraved in 1838
by Pierre Tardieu, a foremost French 19th century engraver.

-
Llivia is marked. This is an enclave of Spanish territory in the French
ddpartement of Pyrénées-Orientales, administratively part of the Spanish
Catalan province of Gerona. In 1659, by the Treaty
of the Pyrenees, 33 Cerdagne villages were ceded to France, and the
political enclave was created with a neutral road across French
territory to Puigcerda, a Spanish fortified town. Notorious during the
17th and 18th centuries as a smuggling centre.
-
