THIS IS A ORIGINAL FIRST PRINTING APRIL 7th AND 8th 1967 VENUE PROMOTIONAL POSTER FOR THE AVALON BALLROOM IN SAN FRANCISCO FOR THE CHARLATANS, CANNED HEAT and SPARROW. THIS EXTREMELY RARE POSTER HAS BEEN LINENBACKED AND RESTORED AND IS NOW CONSISTENT WITH THE GOOD CONDITION GRADE . THE PHOTO ON THE BOTTOM WAS BEFORE AND ON THE TOP AFTER RESTORATION . The before photo was taken in low lighting conditions. YES, this example was totally trashed the corners were missing from rough removal from the telephone pole it was posted on before the concert . It looks great now . THE ARTWORK WAS DONE BY THE HIGHLY COLLECTED RICK GRIFFIN. Beware of Ebay sellers claiming there selling originals and even there photo's picture a repro like the last one I saw . HERE IS SOME BACKGROUND ON THE GROUPS - CHARLATANS -the Charlatans, a group whose blues tunes were as old-timey as their Western costumes that sported the "Edwardian Cowboy" look, which quickly became the fashion in Haight-Ashbury. Their summer-long jam in Virginia City's Red Dog Saloon in 1965 was the first significant gig for a psychedelic band. CANNED HEAT - The blues-rock band Canned Heat was formed in Los Angeles in 1966 by blues fans Al Wilson and Bob Hite and burst on the national scene with an appearance at the legendary Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. Canned Heat in 1969 appeared at Woodstock. SPARROW Sparrow is the original name of Steppenwolf when they were based in Canada.
