1986 Soviets KGB Arrest Nicholas Daniloff Cold War Jack Higgins Editorial Art
This is the original artwork by Jack Higgins for his Chicago Sun-Times editorial cartoon dated 1986. It is date stamped on the back Sep 29 '86, six days after Daniloff was allowed to leave the Soviet Union. Daniloff had been arrested by the KGB on September 2, 1986 and accused of espionage. The U.S. had arrested Gennadi Zakharov August 31, 1986 and charged him with espionage and the U.S. believed that the Soviets arrested Daniloff in retaliation. The U.S. and the Soviets each released their prisoner. The artwork shows a pawn with "Daniloff" on it and the jail cell as a chess board.
The artwork measures approx. 12=1/2" x 17-1/2". This is the original artwork that Jack Higgins created. The artwork is in good condition - there are a few small marks/smudges/light dirt on the art - there is some small creasing in the corners - there are some editor notes on the back - there is some light ink transfer on the back from artwork that was stored under this art. A NICE, ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECE OF EDITORIAL ARTWORK THAT WOULD LOOK GREAT FRAMED! When packed, this will ship at the 2 pound rate - check the postage calculator.
