1987 Pennzoil v Texaco Lawsuit Original Cartoon Art Gas Pumps Lawyers Legal Fees
This is the original artwork by Jack Higgins for his Chicago Sun-Times editorial cartoon dated 1987. The artwork may refer to a lawsuit filed by Pennzoil against Texaco in regards to an agreement in principle Pennzoil had to acquire Getty Oil and Texaco attempting to acquire Getty. The lawsuit led to Texaco filing for bankruptcy protection and Pennzoil eventually agreed to accept 3 billion dollars (less than the 10 billion plus damages originally awarded to Pennzoil). The artwork measures approx. 12-1/2" x 17-3/4". This is the original artwork that Jack Higgins created. The date "Apr 14, '87 623PM" is stamped on the back and that means it was probably published a day or two after that. (It is copyright 1987 on the front) The artwork is in good condition - there is some light dirt/smudges/marks on the front - there is a 1" wide crease along the right margin about 7 inches from the bottom along with a very small (1/4") horizontal tear/split in the margin - there is a small nick along the lower right edge of the margin - the artist's work shows, with some minor corrections as the piece was crafted - on the back there are some editor notes and some light dirt. A NICE, ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECE OF EDITORIAL ARTWORK THAT WOULD LOOK GREAT FRAMED! When packed, this will ship at the 2 pound rate - check the postage calculator. Jack Higgins worked at the Chicago Sun-Times for over 35 years and won a Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1989. Check out my other listings for a few other cartoons by Jack Higgins.
