1982 Election Chicago Vote Fraud Original Editorial Cartoon Art Jack Higgins IL
This is the original artwork by Jack Higgins for his Chicago Sun-Times editorial cartoon dated 1982. (The second year Jack Higgins worked for the Chicago Sun-Times) The artwork deals with what appeared to be massive vote fraud in Chicago in 1982. Over 50 people (many precinct captains and some election workers) were convicted of fraud which was prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Dan Webb. Written in pencil at the top of the artwork is "Veteran vote stealer Paddy Bauler cried on the eve of Daley's first election 'Chicago ain't ready for reform !' That was 1955. He was still right 18 years later". (This was probably the caption that was run with this cartoon) The artwork measures approx. 11-1/8" x 17-5/8". This is the original artwork that Jack Higgins created. The artwork is in good condition - there are a few small marks/smudges on the art - there are some corrections made by the artist as he perfected the artwork - there are some editor's notes written on the back - on the back there is some spots from ink from other pieces of his artwork that was store underneath this one - on the back at the bottom there is a tape mark where a sticker had been removed and some light top layer paper loss. A NICE, ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECE OF EDITORIAL ARTWORK THAT WOULD LOOK GREAT FRAMED! When packed, this will ship at the 2 pound rate - check the postage calculator. Jack Higgins worked at the Chicago Sun-Times for over 35 years and won a Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1989. Check out my other listings for some other original artwork by Jack Higgins.
