1996 Chicago Mayor Daley Closes Maigs Field Orig Cartoon Art Higgins Tic Tac Toe
This is the original artwork by Jack Higgins for his Chicago Sun-Times editorial cartoon dated 1996. The artwork deals with Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley closed Meigs Field in October of 1996 after the lease with the Chicago Park District ran out. Illinois Governor Jim Edgar lobbied the legislature to pass a law authorizing the State to take over the airport and a few months later the Mayor re-opened the airport. The artist used Tic-Tac-Toe in the art back in 1996. Ironically in 2003 in the middle of the night Mayor Daley had his public works crews use bulldozers to put large "X"'s in the runway effectively closing Meigs Field forever. The artwork measures approx. 11-3/8" x 14-1/2". This is the original artwork that Jack Higgins created. The artwork is in good condition - there are a few small marks / light dirt on the art - there are layout editor notes written along the bottom margin - you can see where the artist made some corrections as he crafted his work - there is a 1/2" diagonal crease in the lower right corner. A NICE, ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECE OF EDITORIAL ARTWORK THAT WOULD LOOK GREAT FRAMED! When packed, this will ship at the 2 pound rate - check the postage calculator. Jack Higgins worked at the Chicago Sun-Times for over 35 years and won a Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1989. Check out my other listings for more cartoons by Jack Higgins. If you want more than one, e-mail me so I can combine the postage.
