1994 Chicago City of Big Shudders Cold Wave Orig Cartoon Art Jack Higgins
This is the original artwork by Jack Higgins for his Chicago Sun-Times editorial cartoon dated 1994. The "City of Big Sh-Shudders" is a riff on Carl Sandburg's "City of Big Shoulders" line from his poem "Chicago". This art probably refers to the cold wave that hit Chicago during the week of January 14-20, 1994 that had an average temperature of 6 degrees below zero, making it the coldest week ever in recorded Chicago weather history. January 18, 1994 had a low of -21. The artwork measures approx. 11-5/8" x 14-1/2". This is the original artwork that Jack Higgins created. The artwork is in good condition - there are a few small marks/smudges/ light dirt on the art - there are layout editor notes written along the left edge - you can see where the artist made some alterations as he crafted his work - there is a 1" diagonal crease and a smaller one below it in the lower left corner.
