1981 Chicago Mayor Byrne Makes CTA Cuts Orig Cartoon Jack Higgins Bus Pickpocket
This is the original artwork by Jack Higgins for his Chicago Sun-Times editorial cartoon dated 1981. On the back it has a date stamp of Oct 5, 1981, which was usually a day or two before the cartoon was published.
The artwork deals with Chicago Mayor Jane Byrne eliminated some bus routes and laid off some bus drivers after the CTA faced dire financial straits. The transit union went to court claiming the city had violated their contract. The artwork measures approx. 11-1/2" x 17-5/8". This is the original artwork that Jack Higgins created. The artwork is in good condition - there are a couple small marks/smudges on the art - there are some layout editor notes written along the left margin and on the bottom and right margins - there is a 1-1/4" diagonal crease along with a smaller on beneath it in the lower left hand corner - there is a 1/2" diagonal crease in the lower right hand corner -
on the back there are remnants of a 3" x 1/2" torn off sticker near the bottom - there is some ink transfer on the back from artwork that was stored under this art.
