In Germany the film is called Die Buchse der Pandora (Lulu) and was released in the U.S. as "Pandora's Box" . The 1929 Georg Wilhelm Pabst directed German silent tragic romantic melodrama (a story about an innocent yet hedonistic dancer and prostitute who dooms every man who encounters her . The movie that launched Louise Brooks into international stardom) . The film stars Louise Brooks, Fritz Kortner, Francis Lederer, Carl Goetz, and Krafft-Raschig. Louise Brooks turned her back on Hollywood in 1929, and went to Europe and made some memorable films, most notably this film. In the early 1930s she attempted to return to Hollywood (minus her trademark flapper hairdo), but met with little success.
