THIS IS A ORIGINAL 1967 VENUE PROMOTIONAL POSTER 13 BY 19 1/16 INCHES IN SIZE FOR THE AVALON BALLROOM CONCERT / DANCE NUMBER 42 OF JANUARY 6 , 1967 IN SAN FRANCISCO , CALIFORNIA FOR QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE , THE STEVE MILLER BLUES BAND , THE OTHER HALF, BEN VAN METTER and ROGER HILLYARD, IT IS THE SECOND PRINTING WHICH WAS IN 1967 JUST AFTER THE FIRST PRINTING , THIS IS A PHOTO OF THE ACTUAL POSTER . THIS EXTREMELY RARE POSTER HAS BEEN LINENBACKED AND RESTORED ,IT WASNT MISSING ANY PAPER BUT NEEDED SOME SLIGHT STAIN REMOVAL . The artist was VICTOR MOSCOSO. A little about the bands-Quicksilver Messenger Service was one of the leading acid-rock San Francisco bands of the late sixties. Its early shows and albums contributed some of the best-remembered instrumental jam music of the period. In 1965, at the request of folksinger Dino Valente, guitarists John Cipollina and Jim Murray began putting together a band to back Valente's singing. While Valente was serving an eighteen-month jail sentence for drug possession, the pair added guitarist Gary Duncan, drummer Greg Elmore and bassist/singer David Freiberg. By the time Valente was released from jail, there was no place for him in the band. Within months, Quicksilver was a staple on the San Francisco music scene, routinely appearing at both the Avalon and the Fillmore. Featuring the outstanding guitar work of Cipollina and Duncan and rich three-part vocal harmony, Quicksilver was one of the most popular psychedelic bands of the time. THE STEVE MILLER BLUES BAND In his long career, Steve Miller has gone from being one of the first young white West Coast blues-rockers to being one of the biggest-selling pop-rock artists of the seventies and eighties. In 1966, Miller (who was taught guitar at age five by Les Paul) moved to California and formed the Steve Miller Blues Band. The band played at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 and backed up Chuck Berry at the Fillmore. They took the unusual step for a San Francisco band of traveling to London in 1968 to record their first album, Children of the Future. The band had a communal house in San Francisco and rock pro Miller was challenged by the musical scene of which he was a part. The band went on to have a number of top hits in the 1970s, including "Fly Like an Eagle," "Rock 'n Me," and "Take the Money and Run."
