European born Fabrizio Sotti offers a tasteful platter of jazz for the discerning listener. "The World Upside Down" is supported by some of the most recognizable names in music today. Randy Brecker lends his expertise and superlative trumpet playing on tracks 2, 3 and 6. John Patitucci and his respected and experienced acoustic bass playing reside on tracks 7 and 9. This supportive cast, however impressive, only enhances the fluid and eloquent guitar playing of Fabrizio. The time and effort that goes into such splendid guitar virtuosity is quickly recognized. The artist approaches his instrument with respect and love then calls on it to respond cat quick and precise. Life long fulfillment and harmony seemed to be expressed in the music by this exceptional artist. I say this because I can sense it in his playing. It's no coincidence that the cover depicts Fabrizio holding the earth. He seems so content and in control. The music reflects the image. Gentle and subtle nuances are injected ever so lightly in between the more complex guitar breaks. The rest of the instruments follow the quest of the leader to become one with the music. There is a cohesive unit at work here even though the focus is on Sotti. Sotti is unselfish and intelligent with his interplay amongst fellow band members. The end result is beautiful and flowing jazz music sparked by that patient and deliberate interplay. Playful and inviting, this is smooth and invigorating jazz with Latin flavors mixed in to give it an uplifting feeling. This is jazz music that will warm your soul.
